The TIPD Programme

The Teachers International Professional Development Programme (TIPD) provides the most exciting programme for teachers from schools in England to undertake a professional visit to another country. The programme is fully funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families.

TIPD is designed for classroom teachers in schools. (Other programmes are available for heads.) To take part in a TIPD visit you have to have been teaching for at least two years. A limited number of places are also available for teaching assistants is schools.

Programmes are arranged through Local Authorities (LAs). Each LA has an annual allocation of places and decides which of a series of priorities they wish to focus on. Teachers are then recruited for TIPD through the LA.

The HTI programme (delivered in conjunction with Merganser Consulting) makes available 600 places on TIPD visits each year to LAs. HTI works hard with its network of international hosts to ensure that each teacher has an exceptionally valuable experience. We negotiate destinations with each LA and have a flexible and collaborative approach to TIPD.

We have been overwhelmed by the hospitality, generosity of time and resources, and support that we have been given by fellow professionals, parents and children...  It has made a difference to all of us – changing the mindset of some – for all, improving our practice, undoubtedly.
