What the LA has to do

Each Local Authority has to nominate an officer who takes the lead role. As a TIPD provider we recognise that LA officers have little time to spare, and so we will work hard to support the officer and minimise the effort needed to run an effective TIPD programme.

(Most of the senior professional team managing TIPD for HTI have themselves worked in LAs and fully appreciate the importance of maximising support.)

The LA has to:

Once we have received your TIPD form (which will tell us your priority) we will liaise with our international contacts and come back to you with a proposed destination. We are happy to discuss destinations with the LA, although for the scheme to run efficiently it is necessary for us to reserve the right to determine the destination.

The LA then identifies a Group Leader, recruits the teachers and submits more detailed information. We will provide detailed guidance on how that should be done.

An excellent opportunity to reflect on educational provision and practice in a completely different cultural context whilst at the same time promoting a unique platform for comparison and contrast against one’s own educational beliefs and systems. Bristol LA teacher visit to Masindi, Uganda
