The benefits for LAs

The TIPD programme is recruited through local authorities (LAs). This enables LAs to determine which priority they wish teachers to study, chosen from the DCSF list of Priority Themes.

The priority chosen will obviously align with priorities for the LA and for groups of LA schools.

Experience with TIPD over several years has shown that it:

  • Helps teachers from different local schools work together collaboratively – this can be particularly beneficial for primary-secondary liaison in a particular LA. This applies whatever the priority area chosen;
  • Can contribute to an LA wide focus on a particular priority;
  • Can be used to support and develop LA wide international links.

I found it to be an amazing experience both professionally and personally. TIPD provided me with an invaluable international professional development experience that served to further ignite my interest in global education. In this way I aim to extend my professional practice within the USA for the academic year 2007-2008. Kent LA teachers to Virginia, USA
