The benefits for LAs

The TIPD programme is recruited through local authorities (LAs). This enables LAs to determine which priority they wish teachers to study, chosen from the DCSF list of Priority Themes.

The priority chosen will obviously align with priorities for the LA and for groups of LA schools.

Experience with TIPD over several years has shown that it:

  • Helps teachers from different local schools work together collaboratively – this can be particularly beneficial for primary-secondary liaison in a particular LA. This applies whatever the priority area chosen;
  • Can contribute to an LA wide focus on a particular priority;
  • Can be used to support and develop LA wide international links.

An excellent opportunity to reflect on educational provision and practice in a completely different cultural context whilst at the same time promoting a unique platform for comparison and contrast against one’s own educational beliefs and systems. Bristol LA teacher visit to Masindi, Uganda
